My research is within the area of digital journalism; the future of journalism; journalism start-ups, disruption and innovations. See ‘Publications’ for my published research.
I’m also interested in social media and its effects on journalism, politics and the public sphere. My PhD looks at Facebook as a space for political talk during the 2015 and 2017 UK General Elections. Due for completion Summer 2018, read the abstract here.
I’m also interested in the links between games and journalism, immersive and interactive journalism, and how we step outside traditional forms and ideas to produce more empathetic, more effective journalism.
These areas also inform my teaching – I’ve devised and delivered modules covering digital and web-based journalism, entrepreneurial journalism, games journalism, blogging and vlogging (YouTubing), as well as contributing to core journalism and photojournalism teaching and supervising final projects.
