My research is within journalism and critical media literacy. I’m interested in journalism’s origins and its future direction. How the production of journalism has changed, but also how engagement with journalism and news changes.
Social media and its effect on journalism, politics and the public sphere is one area of my research, including looking at trolling and the manipulation of public political talk on Facebook in particular.
I’m also interested in the links between games and journalism, immersive and interactive journalism, and how we step outside traditional forms and ideas to produce more empathetic, more effective journalism.
